When You Need Hope --- "The Anchor Holds"
Isaiah 40:31 tells us:
Those who HOPE in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
If our strength, endurance and perseverance are directly related to HOPE, then we can be encouraged by learning more about it.
Understanding Biblical Hope
A dictionary will describe hope as a feeling of trust, or a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.
Biblical hope is similar, yet entirely different, for we walk by faith, not by our feelings.
Biblical hope is a confident expectation of what God has promised, and taking strength in His faithfulness.
The Source of Our Hope Is the God Of Hope !
Romans 15:13 says "May the GOD OF HOPE fill you with all joy and peace in believing (in Him),
so that, by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in Hope."
You see, God not only gives us the promise of being filled with joy and peace,
but the Holy Spirit also fills us with an abundance of Hope.
He is the God of Hope and we are His children. 2 Peter 1: 3-4 assures us that we are partakers of His heavenly (divine) nature.
Romans 8: 29 tells us that we are being conformed into the image of Christ, into His character.
Jesus is not a Hopeless Savior !
We have hope because the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are the SOURCE of our Hope.
Hold On, Don't Give Up, And Don't Let Go !
I don't know what you are going through right now, or where hope is needed,
but here's what I do know:
We are not alone in life's most brutal hardships.
Hope has been provided because our Father knows we will need it here on earth.
Hebrews 6:18-19 says that those who have fled (the world system) to take hold of the HOPE OFFERED TO US (in Christ Jesus)
may be greatly encouraged...We have This HOPE as an anchor of the Soul, firm and secure.
THE ANCHOR HOLDS!
Hebrews 4:14 teaches us that because we have a Great High Priest, Jesus, who has entered heaven,
we can hold firmly to our faith no matter what is going on.
Jesus is compassionate, and sympathizes with our weaknesses, difficulties and our humanity. He understands.
We can approach the throne of grace, in heavens throne room (by prayer) to find help when we need it. As often as we need it.
People get excited if they receive a backstage pass to visit a speaker, or a band for a few moments.
We have access to a Great High Priest in Heaven who wants to listen, who cares about His people.
Hebrews 7:25 goes on to tell us that Jesus ever lives (lives eternally) to make intercession for us.
Jesus is praying for us! That's huge.
Finding hope and encouragement is as simple as these truths about Jesus:
He is Entirely Faithful
He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. He doesn't change. (Hebrews 13:8)
That alone is like a life preserver when we the waves surround us.
He is Merciful
In His great mercy, he has given us new birth into a LIVING HOPE,
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (1 Peter 1:3)
He is An EVER PRESENT (Always Present) Help In Time of Need
God is our refuge, and our strength, a very present help in time of trouble. (Psalm 46:1)
Have you ever been in trouble and the person who was supposed to help you didn't show up? Wasn't present? Wasn't there?
God is always present. Very present. Very close. Just call upon Him.
He is Light In a Dark World
I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12)
God is light, in Him there is no darkness whatsoever. (1 John 1:5)
He has Given us an Inheritance Through the New Birth
… We have an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade, kept in heaven for you... (1 Peter 1:4)
He Cares For Us
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for His sheep (John 10:11)
Our Lord Jesus is the great Shepherd of the sheep. (Hebrews 13:20)
He Has Compassion For Us
… The Lord has compassion (mercy) on those who fear Him. (Ps 103:14)
He Alone Can Heal A Broken Heart
He Heals the broken hearted and binds up (wraps and cares for) their (emotional) wounds. (Ps 147:3)
He carried our sorrows. (Isaiah 53:4)
If you have been through a loss, or a tragedy, Jesus is exactly who He says He is - especially in a time of suffering.
He Provides Divine Wisdom
If any of you lack wisdom, He should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.
He should ask, and wisdom will be given. (James 1: 5)
He Answers Our Prayers Prayed Within His Will
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of Him (1 John 5:14-15)
He Provides Daily Benefits
… "Praise the Lord oh my soul, and do not forget all his benefits;
He forgives our sins, He heals all our diseases, he redeems our life from the pit,
He crowns us with love and compassion,
He satisfies our desires with good things, and renews our youth... (Psalm 103)
He Meets Every Need
My God will supply all of your need, according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:19)
The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painfully toiling for it. (Prov. 10:22)
Those who love me inherit wealth. I will fill their treasuries. (Prov. 8:21)
He Will Never Leave Us
... for the Lord Your God goes with you; He will never leave you or forsake you. (Deut. 31:6)
… for God has said "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you (Hebrews 13:5)
… I am with you always, even to the very end of the world. (Matthew 28:20)
He Will Strengthen Us And Hold Us Up
Do not f ear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God!
I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you (hold you up) with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
He Helps Us When We Are Being Tempted
God is faithful, Who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able,
but with the temptation, He will also make a way of escape (a way out of it) for you. (1 Cor 10:13)
He Gives Us Peace
For a Child Will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will rest on His shoulders.
His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
I leave you My peace. I give you My peace.
And the peace I am giving you is a gift the world cannot give you. (John 14:27).
My sister, isn't it interesting that over two thousand years ago,
even back then believers were told to be ready to share their hope with others who needed hope?
"Always Be Ready To Give An Answer When Someone Asks You About Your Hope. (1 Peter 3:15)
It's no different today!
People have had too much, and they are losing hope.
You have something precious and valuable to offer:
True and lasting hope in a God who is more than ABLE to help.
"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably, exceedingly, abundantly more than we can ask or even imagine,
according to His power that is at work within us,
TO HIM BE GLORY in the church and in Christ Jesus
THROUGH OUT ALL GENERATIONS, (that's us!)
for ever and ever, Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21)
When's the last time someone offered to take care of all your problems, cares, worries, troubles...?
He freely invites us to:
"Cast ALL your anxieties and care onto Him...for He Cares for you (takes care of you) (1 Peter 5:7)That's Powerful
That's Real Hope
THERE IS NOTHING TO HARD FOR HIM !!!
Yet hope is not insisting that the Lord do exactly what we want, when we want it, and how we want it.
Hope is an assurance that He is good, He wants what is best for us, He knows better than we do, and His timing and strategy are best.
This requires patience and confidence that He hears us and will help us, and from the time of our prayer - He is working on it.
If we know we have the petition, and He is at work behind the scenes,
then we can gratefully and appreciatively accept "no's" or "apparent delays".
I say "apparent" because they are only delays from our view, but not His.
I once heard a Christian radio host tell of a man who prayed and asked the Lord for a certain job with a company up in Alaska.
He was qualified. He interviewed well. He really wanted to go, and his family was on board.
Yet the Lord did not give Him the job. He took it kind of hard.
The Lord blessed the man with a different job.
A few months later the man learned that the company in Alaska went bankrupt and let all the people go.
He would have sold his house, uprooted His family, and been out of a job in a tough economy with a high cost of living.
He now saw God's "no" in a very different way, and praised God for protecting Him.
The Lord was not trying to keep anything from the man, or withhold any blessing.
The Lord is all knowing. He sees the future, what's coming down the pike, the whole picture that we can not see.
….the end of the story is....
and he prospered and advanced in the job the Lord gave him.
His promises are true and amen, but God is not a caterer or someone we can dictate to.
He has His own ways of doing things that bring perfect, lasting results in the perfect timing.
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways (methods) your ways declares the Lord.
Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts higher than your (human) thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
Let's be ready, lets be excited, let's be looking for opportunities
to share our hope
in the God of all Hope.
You Are NEVER Alone When You Need Hope.
Whatever the Need...
Whatever the Issue...
GOD IS BIGGER.
There is no shortage on hope, no rationing, no daily limits!
Hope is free for the taking.
